The visuals have been kept in a darker tone, but there has also been an improvement in the quality of graphics, including character models, the appearance of locations and spell effects. Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is based on a heavily modified Unity engine, known from the previous part of the series. There were also some strategic elements in the production, but the new system, unlike the kingdom management from the previous installment of the series, has gained in depth and has been better adapted to the game and fitted into the story of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. Each of them has been significantly changed in relation to the solutions from the card game and adapted them so that they will work better in a computer game. During the game, you can follow the path of the immortal lich that commands the army of the undead, the angel summoning heavenly allies on the battlefield, or the charlatan (trickster) joking happily even in the middle of the Abyss filled with demons. They have a significant impact on the course of the plot, permanently changing the characters and the environment around them. One of the novelties is the mythological progression system, borrowed from the table game of the same subtitle, which gives access to extremely strong abilities. In Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, new characters, classes (The Witch and the Oracle), archetypes and races have appeared, but in addition, the ones known from the previous installment have also returned. There are also numerous moral choices in the game, which have a large impact on the rest of the game. It is a classic team RPG, in which we explore atmospheric locations, fight opponents in real time with an active pause, and complete main plot tasks and side missions, gaining experience points needed for character development. The action of the game was shown – just like in Pathfinder: Kingmaker – in isometric projection. The story focuses on the struggle between good (humans and angels) and evil (Lord Deskari’s demonic minions). This time, as a group of daredevils, we travel through the new, darker region of Golarion, visiting, among others a wasteland overrun by demons, a city of crusaders besieged and a dangerous Abyss. Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous does not directly continue the story of the debut game by Owlcat Games.
The creators once again collaborated on the production with the legendary veteran of the industry, Chris Avellone, creator of, among others Planescape Torment and Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords. We are dealing with an indirect continuation of Pathfinder: Kingmaker, the classic RPG with an isometric view based on the Pathfinder paper game system, which is a modified version of Dungeons & Dragons 3.5.
